The major business of this division is to hold research seminars, joint research with several academic societies, and to publish a gazette and other publications. The projects currently in progress are:

¡Ü Gazette of Buddhist Studies: It is the collection of this Gazette, which has played an important role in systematizing Buddhist studies and in exploring new research fields. Starting from the first issue in 1963, it has been distributed to university libraries and research institutes in Korea and foreign countries like Japan, China, USA, Canada, Germany, France, etc.
¡Ü Historical material collection of Buddhism is the true record of Joseon Dynasty (after 10th year of King Jungjong¡¯s rule): The true record of Joseon Dynasty includes a huge amount of facts regarding Buddhism; so it is the indispensable research document for the Buddhist circle and Korean Studies. However, the facts of Buddhism are scattered, so they are not effectively used. Therefore, the division plans to organize and interpret all the facts of Buddhism from the record, and to publish a book.
¡Ü Research of original Buddhist texts: Since October 2000, the division has been working on translation and interpretation of original Buddhist texts for the purpose of globalization of Korean Buddhism and of making world Buddhism more Korean.
¡Ü Korean Buddhist Cultural Dictionary (English version): Its purpose is to provide basic materials for translating Korean Buddhist history into English, which is being proceeded by the University for globalization of Korean Buddhism.
¡Ü "Future and Buddhism" : The division plans to publish a book under the title of "Future and Buddhism" in order to deliver the Buddhist way of thinking easily and rightfully.
¡Ü Korean Buddhist Cultural Dictionary (Korean version): It plans to publish a Korean version of "Korean Buddhist Culture Dictionary"around the time of completing the English version.

The major business of the division is to publish a scientific bulletin of Buddhist art research, to explore/investigate/research Buddhist art, to repair/maintain Buddhist cultural properties, to hold seminars and exhibitions of Buddhist art, to copy Buddhist cultural properties, to set up theories of modernizing Buddhist art, to do experiments and practices of modern Buddhist art, to manufacture/distribute modern Buddhist art, to provide consultation and advice for foundation of temples, and so on. In the near future, it plans: to publish the second edition of Buddhist art research and the report of scientific research; to do investigations of Goguryeo and Balhae relics, measurement of Taeanmaaesamjonbul (Buddhist triad statue carved on rock surface in Taean), measurement of Wanju Songgwangsa (temple in Wanju); and to hold an exhibition of modern Buddhist art.

The main purpose of this division is to provide research of Seon studies and its relevant sciences, and publications.
