| The Graduate School of Buddhist Culture was established for the
purpose of: realizing the University¡¯s foundational spirit; teaching
and researching the academic system in the field of Buddhist arts
including Buddhist studies; building up character, qualification,
and unique ability as leaders; and cultivating competent talents for
propagation of the Buddhist culture. After getting the approval from
the Ministry of Education in July 2000 on the establishment in Gyeongju,
the holy land of the Buddhist culture, the Graduate School received
applications for admission from the first semester in 2001 to open
the lectures in March 2001, which was the first step into accomplishing
its foundational purposes. Since its establishment, the School has
had 2 departments of Buddhist Studies and Buddhist Arts with the majors
of Buddhist Studies, Seon Studies, Korean Traditional Music, and Buddhist
Art for a master¡¯s program. For those who are actively in charge of
the Buddhist and the cultural art world, the School opens a leader¡¯s
program in order to provide a chance of profound higher education.
For the course of systematically researching the funeral culture in
Buddhism, of cultivating competent talented students in the related
fields, and of advanced training of personnel working in the funeral-related
areas, the Graduate School got approval on the opening of the Department
of Funeral Culture from the Ministry of Education, so it can receive
applications for admission from the first semester of 2002. The Graduate
School will be a cradle of the cultural art field for academic research
of Buddhism, which is expected to be a balancing influence upon the
modern society and the future civilization, and for the improvement
of human life, so it plans to expand itself with more departments
and majors. |
